Hawaii moved up about 4-5 spots to #18 in today's RPI. We can probably thank Stanford and Saint Mary's for winning big. If Stanford, UCLA and Saint Mary's continue to do well - we may be seeing a 1st & 2nd Round match at the SSC come December.

Surprised that Emily Hartong received Hawaii's nomination for this week's Big West Player of the Week and not surprised she didn't win I felt Vorster and Kastl pulled out better performances and overall, Vorster should have received the nomination and the eventual Athlete of the Week Award. For the weekend, she had 20 kills with 1 error out of 31 attempts hitting at an amazing .613 clip while adding 12 total blocks. I know Hawaii's trying to push Emily's bid to win Big West Player of the Year but Vorster was just out of this world.

Hawaii will be leaving in the next couple of days and I'm curious to find out if Jane Croson will be joining them on this weekends road trip. According to Cindy, her suspension nearly appears to be over but I prefer to believe it when I see it. If Jane does join the team, I wonder who will be staying home? Tai Manu Olevao or Ginger Long? Ginger has an amazing serve that basically broke apart Pacific's serve-receive game but Tai needs to develop more as a player - I forsee that last seat going to Tai in hopes that she'll contribute heavily when the wahine need it most in December.

  1. Nice of UH to PUSH Hartong for player of the year... Surprising she is putting up such LOW numbers, while usually going up against only 2 or 3 blockers. Especially since the defence can't key on her with JC on the other pin... nevermind. Playing 6 rotations and trying to carry the offence with a bad knee till JC gets back and she gets ripped in your blog again..WOW

    1. wow. arrogant aren't you? so we should just tell jade, jane, ashley & every one else on the team that regardless of how well you perform you will never get recognized because emily is the bomb.com?

    2. Emily, for as much as she was okay in the middle last year, is NOT the OH that everyone envisions...next year, maybe, but there are too many 'others' out there this year that are the "bomb.com".

She's a QH (pure and simple). She would've excelled on a LBSU team of the 90s. What she does not have as an OH is the heavy arm which is virtually impossible to dig by the opponent(s). If Hartong can't outquick the block, she's in trouble.

Ashley could be even better--at the net--IF she didn't need to concern herself with passing.

I really like Jade Vorster; with the right set, she smashes the ball with authority to the floor.
